Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 1 can 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce optional
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ cups French fried onions divided

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and grease a 2 quart baking dish.
  2. Cook the green beans in a pot of boiling salted water for 5 minutes, just until they turn bright green. Drain them well.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce and pepper until smooth.
  4. Add the green beans and ¾ cup of the fried onions and stir to coat.
  5. Spread the mixture in the baking dish and bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the rest of the fried onions on top and bake another 5 to 10 minutes, until the onions are golden and the casserole is bubbly.

Recipe Notes

Using frozen green beans? Thaw them, pat them dry and skip the boiling step.
Canned green beans work too. Use two 14.5 ounce cans, drained really well.
Make ahead: put it together without the onion topping and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
Freeze without the onion topping for up to 2 months.
Feeding a crowd? Double everything and bake it in a 9x13.

Ovens vary, so start checking at 30 minutes total. It may need up to 35 minutes for the onions to turn golden and the casserole to bubble.
