Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 6 cups

Ingredients

  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • ¼ cup red candy melts
  • ¼ cup white candy melts
  • ¼ cup blue candy melts
  • ¼ cup M&Ms (preferably red, white, and blue)
  • 1 tablespoon sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using an air popper or your preferred method. Remove any unpopped kernels and spread the popcorn evenly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  2. Place the red, white, and blue candy melts into separate microwave-safe bowls. Microwave each color in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted and smooth.

  3. Transfer the melted candy melts to piping bags or small zip-top bags with a tiny corner snipped off.

  4. Drizzle the red, white, and blue candy melts evenly over the popcorn, moving back and forth across the baking sheet to coat as much popcorn as possible.

  5. Immediately sprinkle the M&Ms and patriotic sprinkles over the popcorn while the candy coating is still wet.

  6. Let the popcorn sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes, or refrigerate for about 10 minutes, until the candy coating has fully hardened.

  7. Break the popcorn into clusters and transfer to a serving bowl or individual treat bags before serving.

Recipe Notes

  • White chocolate can be dyed red and blue instead of using candy melts.
  • Let the candy coating fully harden before serving.
  • Great for party favor bags and snack tables.
  • Store in an airtight container for maximum freshness.
  • Add extra sprinkles for a more festive look.
