Ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds pork butt or pork shoulder roast
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons pork rub
  • 6 ounces root beer Dr. Pepper or 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls (optional to make sliders)

Instructions

  1. Coat the pork roast with the pork rub, pressing it into the meat so it sticks well.

  2. Place the pork in the slow cooker and pour the liquid around the roast, not over the top.

  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily.

  4. Transfer the pork to a bowl and add some of the cooking liquid to moisten, as desired.

  5. Shred the pork and serve on Hawaiian rolls with BBQ sauce or enjoy as-is.

Recipe Notes

  • Don’t pour liquid over the pork so the rub stays in place
  • Low and slow gives the best shredded texture
  • Add cooking liquid back after shredding for moisture
  • Toast buns before serving to prevent sogginess
  • Great for sliders, sandwiches, or casual gatherings
