A Scandinavian Modern Home Tour ~ Stunning!

When my sister, mom and I recently went on a girl's weekend to the Outer Banks in NC, we had the opportunity to stay in a Scandinavian modern decorated home owned by a local interior designer. The photos truly do not do this incredible home justice; I LITERALLY teared up as I walked from room-to-room. I wouldn't let them bring the bags into the house or settle in for an entire hour while I photographed every detail.

Scandinavian inspired design is making a come back for a good reason, it's calm, it's cozy and it's a style easy to decorate with stores like IKEA, handcrafted goods for sale on Etsy and easy DIY tips on Pinterest. Add in Amazon, and you can receive Scandinavian "look" goods in the mail 2 days later.

Scandinavian style makes you WANT to pick it up and keep it clean, what a better style for busy families or for anyone wanting their home to be a calm oasis.

Have you heard of the term Hyyge yet? It's a recent trend in the US influenced by Denmark that will boost your mood and make you happier at home. The closest translation of hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is the "art of coziness," and the Scandinavian countries wholeheartedly embrace this philosophy--which contributes to why they're the most happy countries in the world!

I promise when I teared up after seeing this house it was tears of happiness! <3

Dining Room

I'm completely in LOVE with this dining room! What's so great about this space and the entire house, really, is the mix of simple inexpensive DIY touches like the dining room table, handmade benches for seats and crafty touches like branches in a vase of sand with glued on paper willow flowers. This STUNNING home truly is a perfect example of not needing to spend much money to fix up your space.

Many of the items in this home were from IKEA! The exact items might not be in stock but I'm sure there'll be something similar.

My grandparents were born in Denmark and my entire childhood included all-out Danish Christmas feasts and decoration--yet I'm currently feeling slighted by the absence of being raised by the hygge philosophy for the rest of the year! 😉

Living Room

Wow! Stunning is truly what describes this space. My sister and I didn't leave the couch for basically the entire day because it was such a cozy space and had a perfect view of home details.

I'd describe my own house as a cross between an updated cozy modern Craftsman and "too many outdated family hand-me-downs to count," but staying in this house literally made me want to redo my entire home with a Scandinavian minimalist vibe!

If you're also wondering (like I also did) how they keep their white furniture clean, the secret my friends is with removable and washable slip covers 😉

Ummm hello? Can this chaise lounge be my new bed? This is an artificial sheepskin rug, what a luxurious touch!

The home includes multiple elements of nature in the living room including plants, lighted willow branches, bulbs, artificial grasses and a bowl of driftwood. Make use of what's around you or in your yard.

Danes love their lamps and design (aka very expensive) lamps are common. Fortunately for us store like Target and IKEA carry the modern tripod style for a fraction of the price.

Don't you just love the pom-pom tassels on this pillow?? So easy to add yourself with a bag of pom pom's from the craft store. Yes, I'm already considering which pillows to add pom-poms to at my house 🙂 One of the blankets on the back of the couch also had pom-pom tassels, to give you another decorating idea!

Cozy Nook

floor poufs, pretty plants, and bright colors bring character and fun to the space

Isn't this wall amazing?? What a cute chalkboard wall on the door for fun notes!

The cubes in the stairwell are from IKEA and have just enough space to add candles. I love this idea! This is an easy way to add coziness to an area needing more charm.

Kitchen

A gorgeous modern IKEA kitchen with all white dishes and comforting touches such as a juice press, espresso machine and a yummy display of pastries.

Master Bedroom

It amazes me how such a simple space can be so cozy. You can see how the multiple striped decorative touches all just seem to WORK together.

The huge modern opening lets you overlook the living room but closes for privacy by using barn doors.

More touches of natural elements that give warmth to the otherwise white space

Bath

I'm loving the use of inexpensive IKEA cubes, the pallet bookshelf and vintage storage cart (with added castor wheels.)

In this space the natural elements were a partial stone floor. The bathroom is another great place to add houseplants if you want to add nature to your bathroom!

Guest Bedroom

I'm in LOVE with this bedroom and yet it's decorated so simply! This room is a true example on not needing much space or decor to create an amazing bedroom.

Guest Bathrooms

Who'd have thought an all black bathroom would look so amazing?! Yes, even the ceiling is black! Just add white, a few pops of colors and a few natural elements and this space just WORKS!

How FUN is this room? When using complimentary colors, you can add many different shades and it all still manages to blend.
