Finding bathroom storage ideas for small spaces can be tricky. There are so many items we need to keep in a bathroom, yet many of us don’t have enough storage for our bathroom odds and ends.
DIY bathroom storage ideas are the ideal way to not only provide bathroom storage for your small bathroom but also save you money by using inexpensive and clever bathroom storage hacks
I want to start working on our guest bathroom this winter and really want to have a pedestal sink. When we took out the hall closet with our main living area/kitchen remodel, guess where some of the contents went?….under the guest bath sink! I’ll have another storage shortage by putting in a pedestal sink, but I love them, it’s not a bathroom that gets used often and they’re inexpensive compared to a full vanity!
Here are some of the ideas I’ve found online to help me with my guest bath planning (that’d we’d actually use!), help Madi with storage ideas for her bathroom 3 girls share, and hopefully will inspire our readers for their projects. <3
Ikea Cart Hack
I LOVE rolling carts! They are so versatile and can be used for extra bathroom storage, as a nightstand, for desk storage or for craft/project storage. And if you truly don’t have space in your bathroom for one (maybe you share a bathroom with multiple people?), do what Madi does and she stores her bath products, makeup, etc on the rolling cart in her bedroom and wheels it into the bathroom as needed.
If you’re looking for small bathroom storage ideas, Ikea is always a great place to find inexpensive ways to organize your needed bath and beauty items.
She’s in the middle of a move, but will post how she organizes it after she’s fully moved in 🙂 Well, it used to be my rolling cart until she was short on bathroom storage and it mysteriously ended up at her place;). We bought it at IKEA for only $30! Ours is gray, but they also have cream and aqua–just cover with spray paint if you prefer a different color! You do need to assemble it yourself, but it was easy to do.
You can find the IKEA cart for a little bit higher if you don’t have IKEA near you.
Here’s a couple more small bathroom storage ideas with an Ikea rolling cart. You can also add cool cart attachments to expand your space even more like Polka Dot Chair did!
Polka Dot Chair also put together another adorable small bathroom storage idea for beauty products with her utility cart that’s just too cute not to share. Taking the already awesome utility cart and then adding clever attachments is truly one of the best ultimate bathroom hacks!
DIY Magnetic Makeup Organizer
Creating a DIY magnetic makeup board is an awesome way to store your favorite makeups instead of having to dig through a messy makeup bag. I especially love this DIY magnetic makeup organizer because of the extra corner accents that make it extra decorative!

Shelves

I keep a bookshelf in every single room for a reason, it adds instant storage for small spaces. While many bathrooms don’t have built-ins or are short on space (and people don’t typically put a narrow bookshelf in a bathroom-however, they technically could!), what you can do is add a couple extra shelves to the wall, get free-standing shelves, a ladder and also use a bath caddy to store shower supplies.
A ladder works perfectly if you’re in the need for very small bathroom storage ideas, it’s not only cute but provides much more small storage space than just a couple shelves can provide.

Command Hooks
Command hooks are AMAZING and are such an inexpensive yet versatile small bathroom hack! Command hooks can hold heavier loads without having to put screws in the wall and “usually” can be removed without peeling off the paint.
When you have a bathroom with tight storage, the best option is to create easy storage options on the walls themselves. Command hooks are perfect to hang a flat-iron or curling iron, for towels, a bathrobe, bathroom artwork or for hanging little baskets you can fill with supplies like bath toys, makeup, nail polish, or wash cloths.
The least expensive command hooks come in white plastic, they do have silver metal looking ones as well if you’re putting them in a spot where you want a nicer look.

Tension Rods
Tension rods cost a little less than command hooks, it just really depends on what your budget is and your living situation. Tension rods work just like shower curtain rods and you keep twisting between two points until the tension is great enough to hold the rod in its spot. These are perfect for making an easy bathroom curtain or could hang in a window with little baskets.

Make the Most of Your Walls

Going up is one of the best ways to organize a small bathroom. In addition to using a ladder or bins or shelving, using wood pieces or even an old pallet is a unique way to store many items in your bathroom. Your local hardware store will cut pieces of wood for you for free if you ask!
Curtain Rods
Small curtain rods are also a great option to hang galvanized containers or baskets, if you’re fine with screwing the rod into the wall.

Give every item a home and put things away where they go
This is one of my husband’s tips. His mama was very organized, and the key to her success was having a home for every single item in their house. If it doesn’t have a designated home, how do you know where to put it? That’s right, you don’t and your stuff ends up getting throw all over.

Make Do With Less
This is honestly the best way to have enough space in any size bathroom! Just make do with less stuff and only keep what you honestly need and use. Going through your bathroom contents monthly is a great way to stay organized and keep up on expired make-up, empty boxes, or other products you no longer use.
