I just launched my blog September 28, 2017 at 10pm and by September 27 I was already at over 9,000 blog pageviews. I honestly assumed it’d take months to get to this point and as of my third week of blogging, I’ve consistently received over 400 blog pageviews per day and one day was over 1000 pageviews!
Almost ALL of my blog traffic comes from Pinterest at this point. I only had 5 pageviews from search engines and 5 pageviews from Facebook during my first month.
As of my third 3rd week of blogging, I’ve consistently received 300-400 blog pageviews or more every day. I even had one weekend with a mini viral pin that caused my blog to hit 800-1000 daily pageviews for 4 days straight!
Social Media Stats:
- Pinterest: Sept. 28- 34 followers, Oct. 27- 86 followers
- Facebook: Sept. 28- 0 followers, Oct. 27- 0 followers (I need to start focusing on Facebook 🙂
There’s one thing I attribute to my instant blog traffic immediately after launching (other than working my butt off of course!) and that is focusing my blog efforts on using Tailwind Tribes to increase my Pinterest presence.
My brand new blog would not have taken off as fast as it has if I wasn’t using Tailwind Tribes, and while blogging is not my niche, my desire to help others is why I’m spreading the word on the benefits of Tribes.
Update: I am a Tailwind affiliate as of October 20th, which means if you sign up for Tailwind through my link, I get a small percentage from the transaction but it does not cost you anything extra. I wrote most of this post before I became an affiliate because of how much Tribes has helped me as a new blog.
Tailwind Tribes moved out of Beta as of November 1, there are both free and paid options for this service. More on this later in the post!
My 2nd Week Blog Update
I’m also including a 2 week report from Sept. 28 through October 10th so you can see the instant benefit I received with Tailwind Tribes since the majority of my blog traffic came from Tribes directly.
- I have over 2,100 blog pageviews
- I have over 171 pin re-shares by Tribe members and 61 Pinterest repins. This is technically my first 10 days since Tailwind sends out a report on Mondays.
- My potential Pinterest reach from Tribes is 3.3 million
- My pageviews were between 15-27/day and the day after I joined Tailwind Tribes by pageviews shot up to 164 on a Monday (which was my 4th day blogging).
Here’s the Google Analytics overview to show my pageviews from Sept 28-Oct 1 and how they rapidly increased on October 2nd to 165 pageviews! You often see the benefit from Tribes the following day after you post since most of the Tribe members are scheduling the Tribe pins with Tailwind.
My blog literally jumped up over 100 pageviews per day just by joining Tailwind Tribes on October 1st. I wasn’t in any Pinterest group boards at this point and the majority of my traffic came from Tailwind Tribes after I launched.

My One Month Blog Update
By the end of my first month, I received over 9,000 blog pageviews and a huge number of pins came from Tailwind Tribes directly.
My One Month Tailwind Tribe Stats:
- I have over 972 Tribe member re-shares
- I have 702 Pinterest repins
- My potential Pinterest reach from Tribes is 14.2 million
Here’s my blog pageviews from Google Analytics for September 28, 2017 through October 27, 2017.
I did have a few big pageview dips that were directly caused by me not pinning daily. I of course now know to use Tailwind consistently to see the greatest benefit for my blog!
I told myself I’d never be a “blogging about blogging blogger” and here I am already writing my first blog related article within the first month! Tailwind Tribes has been that helpful to me as brand new blog and I wanted to make sure other bloggers knew about the benefits!
What is Tailwind?
Tailwind is an automated scheduling tool that enables you to schedule hundreds of pins at a time to Pinterest in only 20 minutes or less per week. It’s the only Pinterest approved scheduling tool partner. Tailwind is a paid service, but you can post 100 pins for FREE during your trial and can easily cancel if it doesn’t add value to your blog.
As a new blog that isn’t yet making a profit, you have to be careful about how you spend money on your blog. I’m a very frugal person and Tailwind is a huge time saver, I knew before my trial was even up that I’d be paying for their service.
Here’s the Tailwind link to get you started with your free trial.
Once you set up Tailwind, they have an instructional video which shows you how to schedule pins and how to get around their website.
I also suggest joining the private Facebook group Simple Pin Pinterest Strategy Group hosted by Pinterest and Tailwind wizz Kate Ahl. I’m learning new things in her free group on a daily basis that many other experienced bloggers would be charging for!
What are Tailwind Tribes?
Tailwind Tribes are a feature of Tailwind that do NOT require you to be a paid member of Tailwind to use them.
Tribes act like a Pinterest group board in that you upload pins to the Tribe, you re-pin 1-2 posts of other Tribe members in return (depending on the Tribe rules) and Tribe members can choose to pin your uploaded pin to one of their Pinterest boards. All Tribes have different rules, it’s important to follow the rules closely.
How Tailwind Tribes differ from group boards:
- There’s no guarantee a Tribe member will pin your content
- If your post isn’t pinned by a Tribe member, it won’t get shown on Pinterest.
- This means, high quality pins are an absolute must to increase your success with Tailwind Tribes
- The Tribe owner can see if members are following the rules whereas with group boards, they can’t
The Standard Advice From Top Bloggers to New Bloggers (Trying to Make Money from Blogging)
- Set up your blog (check)
- Write 15-30 posts before you launch (check-I started with 35 but have pins for 26)
- Launch your blog (check)
- Have Pinterest be the first social media you focus on (check)
- Use Tailwind or Board Booster to automate pin scheduling (check–I signed up for Tailwind since they are an official Pinterest partner and Board Booster isn’t)
- Join as many group boards as you can (not checked….and not even close!) And here’s why…
My Frustration with Group Boards as a New Blogger
Yes, it completely makes sense WHY joining group boards like top bloggers suggest is critical to success on Pinterest. The problem is, if you’re starting a brand new Pinterest account or have a very tiny following like me, NO ONE wants to add you! OK, not literally “no one,” but it’s pretty dang hard to get accepted to high quality group boards and the process takes much longer than I anticipated.
I only had 34 Pinterest followers and group board owners probably see my stats and don’t think I’ll add value to the board.
My blog plan is to become a money-making business as quickly as possible, yet three days into my launch after spending two months to prepare and writing over 30,000 words in blog posts, NO ONE WAS VISITING MY BLOG!
Why I Considered Quitting my Blog on Day 3
So on day 3 when almost no one was looking at my Pinterest pins (when I was getting less than 20 page views per day) and when I realized blogging was much harder than I thought, how did I handle it??
I CRIED of course and regretted starting a blog!
I truly think I would’ve quit my blog right then and switched back to selling on Ebay or Amazon if I hadn’t already written so much content.
Of course, just as I started tearing up, my 16 year-old son walked into the room and asked me what was wrong. I explained it to him, he gave me a hug and told me that he loves me. And then he added how proud of me he is for working so hard towards something and he knew I had it in me to turn it into a successful business.
That’s truly all it took for me to calm down, be positive and to put my big girl pants back on! I of course knew at that moment I couldn’t quit, I couldn’t disappoint my kids and I’d spent countless hours writing 35 very long posts.
Why Tailwind Tribes is So Valuable to New Bloggers
And then, I vaguely remembered a Tailwind Tribes post from Tailwind I’d pinned on Pinterest. I instantly read every single word and instead of applying for as many group boards as I could, I started searching for as many Tailwind Tribes that I could! It is SO MUCH easier to get invited to a Tribe than to be accepted to a Pinterest Group Board!
- Pinterest Group boards are still very important! I suggest new bloggers keep applying to group boards and focus on your Tailwind Tribes strategy while you wait to get accepted to group boards.
- By week 3 I started getting 400+ page views per day once I started pinning to Tailwind Tribes and got accepted to high quality group boards.
- I wouldn’t have realized the power of Tailwind Tribes if I hadn’t used Tribes as part of my daily blogging plan
How to Get Added to Tailwind Tribes
To get added to many Tailwind Tribes you needed to be “invited” to join. That sounds difficult, right?
It isn’t hard at all to get added! In only ONE day, I was easy accepted to over 40 Tribes!
How to Find Tribes:
- Do a Google search for Tailwind Tribes and blog posts with Tribe lists from other bloggers will come up. Some of these are already closed, just keep trying!
- Do a search for Tailwind Tribes on Facebook. There’s at least 3 private groups that specifically include Tribes currently accepting new members
- As of November 1, Tailwind added a Tribe search feature directly on their website!!
Tailwind Tribes is free to get started and is free for the majority of their users. They do offer 2 paid options for frequent Tribe users (like myself). I’m currently evaluating which paid Tribe level will work best for my blog and will provide a reader update next month.
I still highly recommend you try the free Tribes version and/or the free Tailwind trial! The technique I used would require a paid service to both Tailwind and Tailwind Tribes. You’ll still most likely see increased Pinterest and blog traffic at any Tribes subscription level! There is no guarantee you’ll get my results if you sign up for a paid subscription to Tailwind and or Tailwind Tribes. I highly recommend everyone at least try using the free version of Tailwind and/or Tribes to see if it works for your blog!
Be sure to follow me and share this on Pinterest and Facebook! I’ll be adding a post about my exact Tailwind Tribes strategy (for free!), check back soon!

This is a super great article and helped me a lot with the idea of Tailwind. I only launched my blog about a week and a half ago and I have a lot of studying and learning to do, so thank you!
JenandMadi says
Thanks Lyndi! Sorry about the delay, we were on a spring break vacation. Tribes definitely gave me an early boost that I wouldn’t have otherwise had as a new blogger. Keep working to get on high-quality group boards also, a combo of group boards and Tailwind Tribes together makes a huge difference in getting your blog content seen through Pinterest. 🙂

Wow, that’s an amazing results – although with 40 tribes I guess that’s why. I’ve only been in 7-8 and 2 aren’t great because not enough people pin any content so it stalls my adding any (I need to find better ones). I need to get some better group boards because only 2 are really performing, and although pinterest is my best referrer, it’s still tiny compared to yours after 6 years of blogging. Do you find you get the best results from adding posts to tribes in groups, or singly? I worry mine get lost easily unless I save a load and add them at the same time.
JenandMadi says
Thanks Emma! It helped joining a ton of them and then figuring out which ones were sending me the best results. Now I just focus on the best instead of them all. I do have a freebie download that includes some of my best mom and all niche tribes if that’ll help give you a list to play around with? https://hairsoutofplace.com/top-10-mom-niche-tribes/ Definately keep working to get on high quality group boards too! It’ll really help to get your content seen on Pinterest. Group boards are a lot of work, I only get accepted to 10-20% I apply for, and sometimes I don’t get accepted until a month or so after I apply. I add posts to tribes in small groups, but I don’t upload more than 4 of the same pin to 4 different tribes at the same time. If you add too many, you’re just competing against yourself since so many people in a niche are in the same tribes together. I also add up to 2 pins to my absolute best tribes, but I wouldn’t add more than that to the same tribe at the same time since again, you don’t want to compete against yourself. Just keep working at it and figuring out better tribes for your niche! A mix of niche specific and all niche tribes seem to work well for me. 🙂

I currently use Tailwind. Yes it is a great tool but you can only join five tribes at a time. So I don’t see how tribe lists even matter. Not only that you only get 30 posts a month to the tribes. To me this just seems like you’re pushing the affiliate Tribe thing. I just don’t agree with giving people false hope selling an affiliate thing.
Dorcas says
Our blog is 2 months old and this is a strategy I believe we need to implement! Do you Post in the tribes daily or schedule it?
Mamta says
Thanks for your article. It was so informative. I have launched my blog recently but struggling to get any traffic.
After reading your strategy hopefully now I can get some traffic from pinterest. I have already an account at pinterest but I am still learning how to use it to get traffic to my blog.
After reading your article I am inclined to try tailwind. Will join it soon.
Thanks again.
