Like most of us, don’t you wish you just had even a LITTLE extra money to pay for things your current financial situation doesn’t cover?
You know….you’ve got your bills covered but WISH there was extra to go on a vacation, or you WISH you were setting aside more for retirement than you’re able, or simply, you just want an extra cushion in savings to cover life’s little emergencies so you don’t have to rely on credit.
That my friend, is where the side hustle comes in! It gives you flexibility for yourself or for your family and just makes things…..a little easier!
We both LOVE to side hustle!! And hope to turn our hustling into a full-time job someday, just like many of you! 🙂
MADI’S FAVE HUSTLES: Being a brand ambassador for La Croix! Helping at weddings! Blogging!
JEN’S FAVE HUSTLES: Blogging! Selling on eBay! Apps That Pay Me to Do Stuff I Already Do in Life!
And we know there’s a side hustle option out there that’ll work for you too! <3
Regardless of your reason, we totally get you and have been in your shoes! Before I had kids and definitely as a SAHM, I’ve ALWAYS had a “side hustle” to help us pay for a periodic family vacation, small home projects and extras for the kids our regular budget can’t cover.
I COMPLETELY believe if someone really puts their nose to the grind and works their tushy off, that in your spare time, you can not only bring in extra money for yourself, but you could absolutely turn it into a full-time job!
Here’s a list of 15 realistic ways to make money, whether your goal is an extra $500, $1000, $1500 or more per month!! Most of these are online, a couple are in your own community. Likewise, some of these, with tons of hard work, could even make you $2-$3K/month just with one side hustle, or you can combine multiple smaller side hustles to add up to the extra money that you need!
Happy hustling!!
SURVEYS
If you need money FAST, surveys are literally the easiest and fastest way to make money online!
Surveys are a fun and easy thing to do while watching Netflix, hanging out on campus or waiting for your kid’s sports practice to get done.
The key with surveys, is in order for you to actually make $200-$300+ per month from them, you have to sign up for numerous survey companies. For instance, this isn’t something you could complete 40 hours per week and just do surveys as your primary source of income. You need to sign up for numerous survey companies because they won’t necessarily have surveys for you to complete every single day and you might not qualify for every survey opportunity.
What I recommend is signing up with 5-7 survey companies to start to compare which sites you like, they all run a little differently and have different type of survey opportunities. Here’s a handful of popular and well known legit companies to get you started!
- Pinecone Research– They pay you $3 for survey, each takes 15-20 mins and you can cash out after making $3!
Inbox Dollars– They pay you to read emails, take surveys online, play games, and go shopping! They require an App Store download($5 FREE bonus avail.!) - Swagbucks– You can get paid to do surveys, but you can also make money to watch videos, play games, and shop. ($10 FREE bonus available!)
- My Survey
- Harris Poll– By signing up with Harris Poll, you help shape policy for government agencies, large corporations and non-profits.
- VIP Voice
STARTING A BLOG
Blogging is definitely our favorite way to make money online, but since it is a business, it won’t make you money instantly. I get to pick the topics I write about, I can work whatever hours I want and I can even blog in my PJ’s! While this is my FAVORITE way to make money online, it isn’t a path you can make money from instantly. While I love the flexibility, you are actually starting a business and need to invest lots of time to turn it into a profitable business.
Within 4 months we were making over $400/mo working on the blog part-time, within one year we were making $2500/mo and after 14 months, we earned over $5200+ for the month!
SIDE NOTE: Blogging is NOT a make money quickly path, this is a long-term idea that takes most people many months or possibly years to see a good income from it. While I LOVE blogging and I did make money from it pretty fast, I just want to be real with you that while it’s fun and rewarding, it is lots of hard work too!
The one thing you HAVE TO HAVE to start blogging is a high-quality host. There’s many blogging add-ons you can skip until you’re making more money, but starting with the #1 rated web host, Siteground, is a must! Don’t let anyone tell you it costs tons of money to start a blog, it doesn’t! Just find a way to pay for a high-quality host like Siteground (hmmm, maybe even do the surveys listed above haha or sell some things around the house on eBay) and when you start making money with your blog, then add on one new service or course to help you grow!

Phone Apps Like EBATES
I LOVE eBates! It’s an online shopping cashback app that pays you a % back from your online purchases. This is something I use myself and am now in the habit of ALWAYS shop through eBates first, whether it be for a retail store or for booking a vacation. Ebates won’t make you $100 days by itself by any means, but it’s free money and little bits add up too!
Using something like eBates isn’t going to replace your day job or make you rich, but it’s a no-brainer to use since it gives you free money every time you shop! I’m getting a little over $100 back from a hotel I just booked for a summer vacay. I even made $60 in the very first month by being diligent about going through eBates for all online purchases.
I just went through eBates to book a hotel stay through hotels.com and I get 8% back after our family vacation is completed!
Ebates even gives you $10 just to try their app.
There’s periodic bonus offers where you’ll even get up to 10% back, even from big national retail stores like Target or Walmart. If you get used to using it for online purchases, you’ll be amazed at how quickly the money adds up.
Unfortunately, I made the huge mistake of signing up for Ebates right AFTER I finished my Black Friday shopping, and even worse, I went back to calculate how much I WOULD HAVE earned if I’d gone through Ebates….. it was over $120…..sadness….
Click here to go through my eBates link to get the FREE $10 bonus! (Yep, we tried it out just to get free money too, and now we’re hooked! )

SELLING ON AMAZON
There’s a wealth of selling opportunity through Amazon! Whether you want to sell used books (the easiest way to get started!), sell your own products, sell products from wholesalers or learn how to buy items locally and resell them for a higher price online, there’s possibly something of interest with Amazon.
The Selling Family offers a FREE 7 Day Email Course: Everything You Need to Know to Start Selling on Amazon . They are EXTREMELY successful and are considered the “go to” resource for those interested in selling on Amazon as a beginner. I’ve taken this free course myself and found it super helpful! While I am focusing on growing my blog this year, I’d definitely like to start selling my own products on Amazon next year!
If you’re interested in the FREE Amazon selling course, here’s their link to get you started.
FIVERR
Fiverr is an awesome pay to get started with online freelance work, it’s an easy way to market yourself and get your name out there.
Whatever job related, hobby or a special skill you have (like being a good proofreader or knowing how to make a killer resume or even recording music), you can post for others to pay you for your skills.
Some of the categories include graphic design, writing, music, and lifestyle, video and programming. So if you’re a blogger that creates amazing Pinterest pins, or want to create logos or even wedding announcements, Fiverr is a great option for you to get started with an online business!
The premise is many people start by selling their skills and services for $5 a pop. As your business grows and you gain the trust of your buyers, you’re able to start selling services for a higher price. While $5 might not seem like much, people are MUCH MORE LIKELY to take the chance on a product that only costs the price of a latte! $100 people/month x $5 is still $500!

WRITE AN EBOOK
Yes! YOU can be a self-published writer! It’s honestly way easier than I ever envisioned. What to write about? If you have a hobby or special talent or a skillset you want to share with others, writing an eBook is a way to use your skills to help others. There are tons of ebooks selling on Amazon for $0.99 each, writing a book doesn’t have to be an in-depth novel, it can even be a 40-page guide on a topic you excel at.
I just published my very first eBook and made $200 in the first 2 weeks of launching! I created it in Word, I exported it as a pdf file, I sold it through SendOwl (the first month is free and $15/month after that) and I’ve been marketing it from my blog on Pinterest and through blogging Facebook groups. SendOwl is a popular platform for eBook writers since you get paid instantly through PayPal as soon as you sell a book, whereas other companies hold your money 30 days before making you a payment.
I definitely want to sell my eBook on Amazon too and will be getting that set-up soon!
If you want a step-by-step on how to write an eBook, Lena Gott has an amazing resource called Ebook Creation Guide. I haven’t taken this course, but I have numerous others of hers.
PSST! (Here’s our ebook if you missed it above! 😉
FREELANCE WRITING
I have a very talented freelance writing friend who makes over $8K per month as a writer. She’s expanded her business and now helps women become freelance writers in their spare time. Not only is Abbi smart and talented, she’s hilarious too!
If you’ve ever thought about freelance writing and pitching to magazines and other publications, I definitely recommend you joining her email list!
Abbi has a FREE 5-day course on freelance writing, I’ve taken it and she’s amazing!
UBER DRIVER
We’ve personally known three people (all females) who are part-time Uber drivers and all 3 have had a positive experience! Two of them are adults in there early 20’s-one drives part-time on weekends to supplement her weekly paycheck, and the other was a college student needing to earn a little extra cash in her spare time.
The other driver we know is a stay-at-home-mom who drives for Uber and she ONLY accepts passengers when she’s already out running family errands and ONLY during the weekday, which are usually business people or people needing to go to the airport. She does have kids in school, this isn’t a situation where she’s taking her children with her. No late light drunken crazies for this savvy mom!
As an Uber driver, keep in mind you get to pick which rides you accept and can be picky. The riders have a passenger rating based on experiences other drivers have had with them. If someone has anything other than a high rating or no rating at all, skip them! So if it’s a passenger with a 0 rating, you can skip them, if it’s a repeat Uber passenger with a low rating, skip that person too!
Here’s more info if you want to check into becoming an Uber driver.
FOCUS GROUPS
Joining online or in person focus groups is another one I thought would be super fun! There’s tons of focus group companies out there, but here’s 3 of the most popular! These aren’t regular side hustles, but when you do get selected, some pay as much as $150 per hour of your time!
The focus group company takes a small percentage of your pay in exchange for providing you an easy way to find focus group options.
One negative to mention about focus groups, you do need to submit an application comparable to a job application for each one you apply for and you might not get selected (just like an in-person job too)! They do however, pay a lot if you get selected to participate. In-person focus groups are also known to pay better than the online options!
Here’s 3 of the most popular:
EBAY
I love selling on eBay and was a Power Seller working part-time for many years. I still sell for fun on eBay and it’s a great way to make extra money fast! Basically, anything you can think of can be sold on eBay! I started making over $1,000 per month within 6 months and over $2,000/month part-time within 1 year.
I’ve sold everything from the kid’s clothes, children’s toys, my stuff, old craft supplies, things for friends, antique books, plus
If you REALLY need money fast, set your item up as a Buy Now option and set it at a good price for a quick sale. eBay is so easy to use, all you need is the eBay app and a PayPal account. You can literally just take a photo from your phone, fill out the item details and that’s it! If you don’t have a rating on eBay, buyers will probably be more hesitant to buy from you. I’d suggest adding a personalized bio at the top of your auction to make the potential buyers feel more at ease, or maybe even a public social media account so they know you’re real.
The sky’s the limit reselling items on platforms like eBay or Amazon! I was regularly making $2,000/month through eBay part-time but had to stop because of family reasons. I even wrote a post for mom’s who want to start selling children’s items on eBay for profit. This is still TOTALLY doable and realistic! I started with toys and expanded to other niches over time, but just reselling the children’s items made me about $1,000 each month!

SELL YOUR CRAFTINESS ON ETSY
If you’re a crafty person, Etsy might be the perfect platform for you to make a little extra on the side! Whether you knit, paint, create printables, signs or can design invitations, Etsy is an awesome place to start if you have a fun hobby that you wouldn’t mind making money from too.
Etsy has a FREE beginners guide on Getting Started With Selling on Etsy.
AIRBNB HOST
Airbnb would be a great option if you have an extra bedroom, or you want to make extra money when you yourself leave on vacation, you have a mother-in-law sweet or maybe even an RV in your backyard. Whether you’re wanting extra money to help pay off your mortgage or want to earn money to help you retire early, being an Airbnb host is something to check into.

BRAND AMBASSADOR
How about a super fun, traveling side hustle representing top brands? Being a brand ambassador might be for you! Madi was a band ambassador for La Croix Sparkling Water, not only did she get a high wage, they paid for her travel time, training and mileage!
How to find brand ambassador opportunities:
- Craigslist—if you live near a big city, there are tons of companies who simply advertise for new brand ambassadors
- Contact brands you’re interested in working with directly, they might have upcoming brand ambassador positions included in their career section!
- Check with national Brand Ambassador agencies like Air Fresh Marketing, ATN Event Staffing, or Attack Marketing.
Get started with a FREE brand ambassador course by Kevin of Brand Ambassador World, who’s currently traveling around the US in an RV making $2K a week playing with dogs!
NOTE: If you come across a company that requires YOU to pay THEM to get training, it’s not a reputable company!
EASY SHIFT
The Easy Shift App lets you complete a task for a big well-known retailer needing a quick (5-20 min) “mystery shopper” task done. Most of the tasks are taking photos of how the store has certain items displayed, you fill out a short questionnaire and once completed, the money gets deposited into your PayPal or Venmo account on average within 48 hours.
This is another one that won’t make tons of money, but if you’re a SAHM, your kiddos can even help you!
- Some of the retailers I’ve seen listed include Kroger brand stores, Wal-Mart, Costco, Albertson’s and Walgreen.
- The task rates paid between $5-$14/task depending on what was involved. Wal-Mart needed photos of their beer aisle displays and Walgreen needed photos of their store brand health products.
- If you live in a large city, there are many shifts available! If you live in a small community, they won’t come up often (or at all depending on where you live.)
BANQUET & EVENT SERVER
You probably thought this list only included online side hustles, didn’t you? This side hustle is so amazing, not only with the pay but also the perks, I just HAD to share it with you!
Madi’s been a banquet server at a couple different places over the past couple years, and OH MY! Do they ever get the perks! Not only are these high paying jobs for the food service industry, she makes on average an extra $10+/hr in tips PLUS they give her free food! If that wasn’t all, one job was a worldwide hotel, so she even got 70% off hotel discounts too!
The awesome thing about being a banquet server, is it’s the perfect part-time or seasonal side hustle. It’s super flexible and she’s worked with many people who even did this once per week or seasonally.
To get started as a banquet server, start calling around to hotels, upscale restaurants, a country club in your area or any place that hosts events or business conferences.
SELL YOUR USED CLOTHES
I admit I don’t sell things at consignment shops as much as I should (it’s the eBay seller in me that still does things online :). My friend drops clothes off regularly and makes an extra $30/month from this simple task. Most consignment shops go through your bags of clothes, pick out which ones work for their clientele, and when the item sells, you get 50-60% back from the purchase.
We have multiple consignment shops in town and one of my friend’s favorites pays in cash on the spot when you drop off your goods. Her son took in a couple of bags of used clothes and walked out with $70!
Ebay– This is a great place to sell brand name clothes, you’ll probably make more selling brand-name goods online than taking them to a consignment shop.
Poshmark– An online website where you can buy and sell gently used clothing, basically like an eBay, but just for clothes!
***
I hope you found some side hustles on this list so that you can start making $500-$1500+/month! Whether you’re looking for flexible side hustles, online side hustles, or you’re a mom looking to make extra money from home, there are lots of options for you! We’d love to get feedback on how these work for you!
If you’re looking for money ASAP, completing surveys and selling on eBay would make you money the fastest!
