We actually just made a delicious caramel apple bark for fall that's a must make too!

christmas bark snack for the holidays

If this holiday chocolate swirl bark recipe looks sort of familiar, it's based off of the viral TikTok Christmas bark everyone was making this past year! We added our own spin and fun twist!

What you'll need

  • 6 high quality chocolate bars - 2 white chocolate, 2 dark, and 2 milk chocolate. Lindt chocolate bar 4 oz or Ghirardelli are recommended! We actually don't recommend Baker's brand for this project since the bars are thicker and smaller than the other brands.
  • Sprinkles - red, green, and white are great seasonal colors.
  • Candy of choice - we used milk chocolate M&M's, but any kind of chopped festive candy would be great like crushed candy canes.
  • Star pretzels - totally optional! We found these at Walmart, just add more treats, candy canes, or sprinkles on top.
  • toothpicks or wooden skewers for making the swirls in the chocolate after it melts.

How to make chocolate swirl Christmas bark

Place parchment paper on a rimmed cookie sheet or large baking pan to keep the bark to make it easy to remove from the pan after cooking.

Preheat your oven to 175 F. Melting the bark low and slow is the key to not burning your chocolate.

Place chocolate bars on the pan close together. You can mix them up more than we did or go for an ombré vibe.

It doesn't have to be perfect since they all melt into each other.

Place chocolate in the oven and cook for 5 mins. Check to see if it's melted enough to start making swirls. If not pop it back in and check it after every minute. Do not let the chocolate overcook! It'll ruin your whole batch.

Pull pan out, and use a tooth pick to make swirls across the chocolate left to right.

Add sprinkles, candy, chocolate, decorations to the chocolate until it's covered and decorated to your liking! Is there such thing as a too festive holiday bark? I'm thinking not.

Let the pan sit on the counter until it's cooled down. Set the entire pan of the fridge for at least 2 hours until the chocolate bark is hardened.

Take it out of the fridge and break into pieces. Enjoy! Feel free to eat the pan like I did over 4 days or you can share it with your friends or family. This makes a great holiday gift too.

Madi's tips

  • Melt the chocolate at 175F, this might seem low but I promise it works! Don't melt it too much or else the chocolate could burn and might not swirl well either.
  • Keep bark in fridge for a couple hours before breaking into pieces
  • Use a mix of candies and sprinkles, have as much fun as you want!
  • Careful when opening chocolate bar so it doesn't break into pieces before making bark (my grocery delivery person accidentally smashed some of my bars and I didn't realize it until opening them up!)
  • You can use one kind of chocolate or mix up different varieties like milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white.

Recipe Notes

We recommend reading the blog post to see all of the photos of each step and learning the tips and tricks to make perfect Christmas bark.

Lindt or Ghirardelli brand chocolates are recommended.

Keep a close eye on the melting chocolate, do not over melt it or you'll have a big melted mess. Likewise, burning it will make it hard and not able to swirl.
